UPDATE: The fundraiser for 2-year-old Kamaia Spencer and her family at Edison Environmental Science Academy, originally scheduled for Saturday, February 25, has been postponed due to weather. No new date is scheduled yet.

Two-year-old Kamaia Spencer was critically injured when she was hit by a car on Drake Road in Kalamazoo on November 23, 2011. Kamaia was released from the hospital just before Christmas. Her ongoing rehabilitation includes intensive therapeutical care and travel to care facilities outside of Kalamazoo. Kamaia’s mother, Serena Dickason, is employed through Kalamazoo Public Schools as a school bus driver. Because Ms. Dickason will not be able to return to work for as long as Kamaia needs around-the-clock care, her fellow drivers are helping by raising funds with an indoor garage sale and bake sale on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Edison Elementary School. There will also be hot dogs and chips for sale. A charitable fund has been established at Kalsee Credit Union in Kalamazoo, in Kamaia’s name. Donations can be dropped off at any branch. We encourage our staff and the public to come out and support this fundraiser.

Donations are accepted for the garage sale on Friday, Feb. 24 at Edison, starting at 10 a.m. Unsold items will be donated to the Gospel Mission and the Salvation Army.
